How You Can Give Back
The Area Agency on Aging of Broward County utilizes volunteers to help with a variety of programs and events. We need help with the following programs and at our special events throughout the year:
ConnectingWithU is a free, telephone reassurance service that provides emotional support for seniors in Broward County. The program offers an individualized, emotionally safe space for seniors to express their feelings and concerns while staying interconnected to others from the comfort of their own home.
Health & Wellness classes covering a variety of health-related topics. Volunteer instructors are paid a stipend and depending on the class, teach how to participate in fitness activities and the benefits of adopting behaviors associated with healthy and successful aging.
SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) is a program that provides health insurance information and free, unbiased, and confidential assistance to all current and prospective Medicare beneficiaries, their families and caregivers.
To be a volunteer, you need to:
- Complete a volunteer application including screenings and a background check
- Successfully complete all training as required for the volunteer position
- Be a high school graduate 18 years of age and older
- Live in the tri-county area (Broward, Palm Beach, Miami-Dade)
